:: 6 Things I Love About 10 Things I Hate About You
This movie is probably one of the greatest movies ever made.
There, I said it. So, here’s six reasons why (because I’m too lazy to think of ten), in no particular order.
1. They use “Push It” by Salt N Peppa. I think these people were famous in the late 80’s early 90’s. This movie was made in 1999, which means that Salt N Peppa were pretty much as uncool as it gets; their primary-color leather jackets and ghetto fab hats were no longer in style, nor appreciated. But somehow, this movie seems to give Salt N Peppa 15 more minutes (okay, seconds) of fame at Bogey Lowenstein’s house party. Holla.
2. This movie can be on at any time of any day during any task. I can sit down and actually take the time to watch new-kid-on-the-block Cameron try to win over selfish-high-school-hottie Bianca. (And giggle when he hits his Volvo’s steering wheel and says “and I’m BACK in the game” with a little too much enthusiasm after Bianca kisses him.) But I can also have this movie on when I’m not paying attention. Because I know almost every single scene—nay, frame—of the movie. I don’t need to look at the screen. I am too good for the screen. Ask me to act it out for you; I will. I’ll do the entire thing as a one man play if I want. Because I don’t need to see it to know what locker Michael and Shakespeare chick are talking at. Which brings me to my next point…
3. I know every line. Okay, maybe not every line. But still, I know enough of the lines to sometimes wish that this movie was a “choose your own adventure” movie so that I would at least be surprised once. I know that Kat isn’t that transparent and that she doesn’t want Patrick or need Patrick (oh baby, oh baby). Or that he didn’t have any affect whatsoever on her panties. And that Cameron burns, pines and perishes when he sees Bianca. It’s sad, I know. But don’t tell me you don’t recite every line either.
4. It has a gorgeous Englishman (Australian? …who cares) with a sexy accent and an even sexier body singing to win over the girl he’s accidentally falling for. Tell me that isn’t adorable. Just try.
5. Andrew Keegan is in it. I miss Andrew Keegan. He was fabulous in Camp Nowhere, and brightened up the set with his stellar guest appearances on Full House, Boy Meets World, Step By Step and the ever-popular-hit, 7th Heaven (can we say ABC Family?). He’s a hottie and I will always have a crush on him.
6. The soundtrack kicks ass. I have had this CD since 8th grade and I am proud to say that it still sits in the visor CD case in my car, and it is indeed in my iTunes collection. I still rock out to it. It still makes me happy. From cry-me-a-river songs by Sister Hazel to lets-dance-in-our-platform-shoes songs like the remake of I Want You to Want Me, this CD surely lets you get your groove back and cry while doing it. I bet Stella has this CD.
